What is Quippe
Quippe® is Medicomp’s platform for enabling a new approach to interactive clinical documentation, intelligent workflows, and care coordination in EMRs and other health tech applications through structured clinical data.
Quippe operationalizes clinical data and intelligence across healthcare, leveraging three core technologies:
- MEDCIN®, the clinical data foundation and interface terminology, supplies 450,000 clinical concepts spanning all domains and specialties of medicine, every modality of care, genomic markers, and synonymy.
- Quippe Clinical Knowledge Graph™ contributes over 100 million diagnostic relevancy links, along with more than 10 million mappings to SNOMED CT®, ICD-10, CPT®, RxNorm®, LOINC®, and other standard code sets and terminologies. It is the only evidence-based, expert curated clinical knowledge graph diagnostically connecting nearly every condition in medicine to related symptoms, history, physical exam, tests, and treatments.
- Quippe Operational Intelligence Engine adds embedded clinical reasoning and business logic, delivered through APIs and purpose-built components. Its algorithms handle real-time validation, apply regulatory compliance logic, drive intelligent search, and carry the rules behind clinical quality measures, Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC) and RAF scores, and evaluation and management (E&M) coding.
Built for Clinical Use
MEDCIN is written in the language clinicians actually use –– clinical terms and concepts, not billing codes. A billing code exists to classify an encounter for reimbursement; a MEDCIN concept captures the clinical specificity a physician needs to understand and treat a patient’s condition. Because Quippe is purpose-built for clinical use first, the data it captures carries the full context of a patient and their condition –– context that Quippe translates into billing and reporting codes for downstream use.
Usable Data at Every Point of Care
Quippe recognizes the medical terminology within free text and standard data formats, as well as ambient and generative AI, making clinical data trustworthy and usable for every point of care.
As a clinician documents toward a diagnosis, the Quippe Clinical Knowledge Graph surfaces distinguishing findings and the Operational Intelligence Engine validates information as it’s entered. The result is a rich dataset of structured MEDCIN concepts that downstream systems can use for computation, alongside accurate medical codes for billing, reporting, and interoperability.
Quippe’s deterministic, evidence-based knowledge layer provides guardrails for AI, embedding clinical validation directly into AI-enabled workflows. Quippe translates narratives into computable, discrete data, then uses that structure to filter hallucinations, flag inadequate coding, and identify logical inconsistencies. The same structured clinical data can drive evaluation and management (E&M) coding, evaluate clinical quality measures and care gaps across the patient chart, and support risk adjustment calculations for Medicare Advantage Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC) while surfacing weak documentation or care gaps.
Comprehensive Clinical Coverage
Quippe’s clinical concepts and knowledge graph are the product of 45+ years of clinical knowledge engineering, built and maintained by physicians and clinical experts — not inferred or auto-generated. That expertise is what gives the platform its clinical context: every one of the 100+ million diagnostic relevancy links in the Quippe Clinical Knowledge Graph is expert-curated and fully referenced, providing deep understanding of the clinical relationships between concepts. Each diagnosis is connected to the related symptoms, patient and family history, physical exam findings, genomics, tests, medications, and treatments. Informaticists maintain mappings between each concept and standard terminologies for accurate coding.
That expert-curated foundation spans all specialties of medicine, including:
Addiction Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Critical Care, Dentistry, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, Family Practice, Gastroenterology, General Practice, Genetic Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Gynecology, Hematology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Nursing, Obstetrics, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Psychology, Pulmonary Medicine, Radiology, Rheumatology, Surgery, Trauma, Urology.
Interoperable by Design
Quippe translates clinical concepts to and from FHIR® resources for import and export and CDA-based document formats such as C-CDA and CCD. Quippe also supports the clinical data elements defined by USCDI. Clinical intelligence captured once can move reliably across EMRs, health information exchanges, and other parts of the healthcare ecosystem. Learn more about how Quippe supports interoperability.
